This bagel combination is heaven in your mouth. Filled with flavor and overall, just plain delicious, this is one of my favorite breakfast foods; I could eat this for every single meal it’s just that good! It comprises avocado, eggs, and tomato making it a perfectly balanced and the ultimate breakfast to crush your day.
You may have tried avocado toast but let me introduce you to the most flavorful avocado bagel. This truly is one of the tastiest breakfasts and perfect if you’re craving something salty. This combo is packed with whole ingredients that benefit the body and make you feel amazing!
Bagels are so tasty, and this is one of my favorite ways to eat them. Adding avocado and egg adds healthy fats and protein, creating a completely balanced breakfast.
My all-time favorite bagels are Dave’s Killer Bread’s; there are so many flavors, but my top 2 have to be blueberry and everything bagel. What I love most is how Dave’s Killer Bread is filled with whole ingredients and no additives like most bread brands. One bagel has 10 grams of protein. Plus, they are so doughy and flavorful.
This recipe is overall very simple and takes about 10 minutes to make. It is perfect if you want a quick, healthy breakfast or post workout snack. All you need is a few pantry staples to assemble!
How these ingredients benefit us:
Bagels:
Bagels are a good source of carbohydrates filled with B Vitamins, such as thiamine and riboflavin, to help in energy conversion. Choose wheat-based bagels to contribute whole grains to your daily whole grain intake.
Avocados
Avocados have become a kitchen staple more so than in the past and there are good reasons! They are high in healthy fats, fiber, potassium, magnesium, folate, and vitamins C, K, E and B6. Avocados have been found to have positive links to reducing risk of heart disease and are beneficial for gut health and are high in anti-inflammatory compounds.
Tomatoes:
Tomatoes are packed with vitamin C, beta carotene, potassium and an important phytonutrient called lycopene, which has been shown to reduce risk of heart disease and cancer. Tomatoes are low in calories and a perfect add-on to many food dishes. Choose ripe tomatoes to maximize nutritional benefits.
Eggs:
Eggs are a complete protein containing 8 grams protein per egg, similar to the amount of protein in 1 ounce of meat. Eggs are high in selenium, choline, and Vitamins B-12 and B-7. Whole eggs can be substituted with 3 egg whites 1/4 cup egg substitute.
Ingredient Substitutions:
- Instead of Bagels this combination would be just as good on Bread or an English Muffin.
- Not a fan of Avocado? Use Cream Cheese for another healthy fat source.
- Tomatoes are completely optional! I just like them for more flavor, but cucumbers would also work great!
- Feel free to cook your eggs any way you like! (I like mine over easy or scrambled)
- You could always make this a breakfast sandwich as well!
