Have a sudden BBQ craving? This BBQ Chicken Bowl is healthy, easy, and flavorful! Plus, it doesn’t take long to make! This bowl is perfect for meal prep and is completely balanced. All you need is a few common ingredients to assemble!
I don’t know about you, but I’m obsessed with bowls. They are so easy to make and a great way to receive nutrients with more flavor. I can’t just eat one thing at a time; I have to mix everything together and try it all at once for the full experience.
This is one of my favorite bowls when I have a craving for BBQ. Plus, it is so easy to assemble especially if I have chicken and veggies already sitting in the fridge. Of course, you can use any meat or veggies, but my favorites to pair with BBQ are chicken, green beans, and broccoli.
The secret ingredient is Primal’s Hawaiian BBQ sauce. As always you can use any BBQ sauce, but I love Primal’s kitchen. Their products are gluten free, dairy free, made with good non inflammatory oils, and high-quality ingredients. A lot of sauces have additive sugars, and inflammatory oils, while Primal’s kitchen has only 5 grams of sugar. The sauce is overall high quality and worth every penny.
This BBQ chicken bowl is a completely balanced meal. I used chicken for my protein, turmeric brown rice for my carb, green beans for my vegetable, and avocado for a healthy fat. However, if you have other veggies, or carbs you would like to use go for it! I’ll list out the best options!
Other carb sources that would pair well:
- Basmati Rice
- White Rice
- Chickpeas
- Potatoes
- Sweet Potatoes
- Bread (maybe a BBQ sandwich)
Veggies that would also work great:
- Broccoli
- Brussel Sprouts
- Asparagus
- Mixed Greens
- Kale
Different proteins that would also be tasty:
- Salmon
- Beef
- Pork
- Chickpeas
I think it’s important to be mindful of what we eat and aware of how it affects us. A lot of times we see things labeled as healthy but that isn’t actually the case. A lot of “healthy” options have added inflammatory oils and excessive sugar that aren’t actually beneficial for our bodies. So, let’s talk about how the ingredients in this BBQ chicken bowl supports our overall health.
How this BBQ Chicken bowl benefits our body?
Chicken
Chicken is a low-fat meat that can be used as a protein source in a variety of recipes. It is full of B vitamins and contains phosphorus and selenium.
Brown Rice
Brown rice is a complex carbohydrate that does not have a high glycemic index. It provides a source of fiber in comparison to white rice and is packed with B vitamins, magnesium and selenium.
Tumeric
Tumeric is a plant that is used as a spice. It is from southeast Asia and frequently used in Indian cooking. Recently, it has become popular in American meals and frequenting recipes. It has been shown to help decrease inflammation, help prevent cancer and shown to help decrease risk of cardiovascular disease. As more research is completed there will likely be more future discoveries to support its health benefits.
Green Beans
Green Beans are a low-calorie vegetable, high in vitamins A, C and folate. Fresh is always best to use first, but if not available choose frozen to keep vitamin levels intact.
Avocados
Avocados have become a kitchen staple more so than in the past and there are good reasons! They are high in healthy fats, fiber, potassium, magnesium, folate, and vitamins C, K, E and B6. Avocados have been found to have positive links to reducing risk of heart disease and are beneficial for gut health and are high in anti-inflammatory compounds.
Primal’s BBQ Sauce
While BBQ may not sound the healthiest, Primal BBQ sauce is certainly a healthier option. It is made with healthy non inflammatory oils, little sugar, and real ingredients that make you feel good. Plus, it adds a whole lot of flavor to your meal.
